HRCR Gaydon Open Day Saturday 11th January 2020

Blackpalfrey Motor Club will have a stand at the Historic Rally Car Register's Open Day at the British Motor Museum, Gaydon on Saturday 11th January.  We will be promoting the Hughes Rally and the Tour of Kent.

Autosport 1960

To commemorate the 60th anniversary of the RAC rally’s first use of forest stages, a number of cars that actually took part in 1960 will attend. From the glamorous class 8 (Grand Touring Cars over 2,000cc) we will have the museum’s own class-winning works Healey of the Morley brothers, alongside the privately owned Don Grimshaw Triumph TR3 that was 3rd in class. And as if that wasn’t enough, they have also been promised the Jaguar MkII that was 4th overall, the Austin Healey Sprite that was 2nd, and a superb replica of an 850 Mini. These cars will act as a great launch pad for the HRCR's three forums.

The opening forum will start by looking at the 1960 RAC rally itself.  To help attendees understand the cars and the event properly will be BMC Competitions Department stalwart Bill Price, together with key members of the BMC team. This forum will continue with a contrasting look at an HRCR Stage Masters Championship car from today. Topics will go on to cover the events, car preparation and the driver’s own views, making it a perfect introduction for anyone looking to move into the world of historic stage rallying. The second forum will feature the HRCR Speed Championship, with competitor experiences provided by father and daughter team Ian and Vicky Hunt and their very rapid Mini. The final forum, and of Great interest to Blackplafrey members will focus on the HRCR Clubmans Road Rally Championship, again giving insight and advice for those wishing to enter the competitive world of navigational events.
